Moving into your first apartment is a big step in the growing up process. Usually this happens while you are in college or shortly there after. That means that for most people money is going to be tight and furnishing the apartment will have to be done on a budget. There is no room for Bauhaus furniture or Modloft furniture in a college apartment. This costs too much and isn’t very functional for someone in a small starter apartment. One place you should look for couches or tables for your apartment is craigslist. This is a website online where people can list different items that they are selling, usually with a picture. What makes this different than a service like eBay is that the people normally will not ship the item that you purchase. You pay in person instead of online, which means that you should look for things around you. While many of these items are used, most of them look fine. You can see the products in person before purchase, so if you are not happy, the sale can be stopped. Craigslist is perfect for affordable pieces, but not great for the most attractive things.
For some college students, it could be cheaper to rent certain things. There are plenty of stores where you can pay to rent beds or televisions for a monthly cost. This makes sense for someone who might want a little bit higher quality but does not care about having to give it back. Stores like the Goodwill can be good places to look if you do not want to rent. While this store is meant for people with low income to find gently used items, it can be a perfect place to find something you desperately need. There are always going to be cheap ways to find things to fill your apartment, it is just a matter of where you go to find them.
It is really helpful to find roommates when moving into a new place. With multiple people living in the same building, it will be easier to find everything you need. There will be more money for everyone to come together and spend on the things you still need. While you do give up having as much space and privacy, it can make your apartment look that much nicer. Sometimes you could get lucky. You or your roommates may know someone that is giving away some stuff. It is a way to find couches or beds for free. Sure you have no choice in what the stuff looks like, but it will not cost you a penny. When moving into your first house or apartment, always keep in the back of your mind that you have to find things for every room.
