How to get rid of rats
Friday, October 30th, 2009Rats are dirty creatures that often find their way into homes. Rats bring about sickness in the house along with other bugs. Rats have a tendency to chew on wires which is fatal.
Rats are an absolute nuisance and no sane person would like them to stay in their homes. You have to identify how they get in and stop them.
Rats are visible in all open spaces, cupboards, beneath the bed, in kitchen cabinets. Rats love all types of food including pet food. Rats have a special attraction to all types of waste food which includes animal food as well.
Outside the home, they secretly bury themselves in waste paper baskets, inside stones and rubble, beneath wooden and timber piles etc. If your yard or garden is rat infested, they would surely ransack your home.
The priority is to clear the waste and junk in your yard.
You should stack fire wood off the ground. As far as possible, do not dump heaps of garbage and other wreckage material at your backyard.
The garbage bins need to be firmly closed, so that the rats do not find their way into the garbage bin. Pet foods and bird foods should be ideally placed in high containers so as to prevent rats from climbing onto the container.
Once you have cleaned up outside you need to clean up inside.
If you have a place for storing your dry grains and foodstuffs in the basement area of your home, ensure that they are tightly closed, so as to not let the rats into the bin. If your home is infested with rats, all the crevices and wall openings need to be sealed and tightly closed. Independent houses with tall trees in the backyard usually have big branches, so it is important to cut them, otherwise you would be welcoming rats into your house. The bath area should be kept neat and clean otherwise they are ideal places for rats to thrive.
Once you have identified that there are rats in your home, either hire the services of a professional or try out laying rat traps.
Remember that rats carry many diseases and can be very harmful if they attack you or bite you.
