Bath Vanities - Choose Contemporary Modern Or Traditional Bath Furniture

Friday, January 30th, 2009

Check out some design sites for modern bathroom vanities and you will be spoiled for choice as there are loads of cool offerings avaiable today. Looking at vanity sinks, you can find stylish pedestal stone options, beautiful wood designs with sinks in glass, sinks fitted on the wall and the latest designs in table top sinks with generous storage options below. The latest designs in modern bathroom vanity decor offer a wide variety of innovation and choices, which means there will always be something that suits your personal taste.

You can also find all glass options with both table top and sink in glass which will surely leave a very modern and stylish impression. Oak also seems to be back in fashion with some and seems to offer kind of a calming experience, giving a back-to-nature feel. We especially like wood faucet handles for some reason, with their natural feel. Sink chests are also another unique design that some people find extremely attractive and opt for as the centerpiece of the room.

Contemporary bath vanities gives your bathroom a modern, stylish ambiance. They can be derivative of the art deco style or perhaps have a European look. Chrome or brushed aluminium could be used as a part of the contemporary look and add a certain brightness to the look of the room. Find inspiration around you. Contemporary designs include unique modern ideas like glass for example, which is becoming very popular for distinctive, modern-looking sinks. Stone vessels have also become popular and part of the modern choice.

The stylish details are important in a modern bathroom so why not try brushed chrome faucets, which lend a more demure look to the bathroom. Another statement of elegance (more traditional) is achieved if you use brass faucets instead, an option that some people may prefer. Consider a pedestal sink if you aren’t space challenged and don’t need the cabinet space below the vessel. It usually works well in most bathrooms.

If you’re in the lucky position of building a new home or refurbishing your current bathroom you have more flexibility in choosing bathroom vanity cabinets that not only match the current design style of your house, but also take into consideration the space savings that are so important in bathroom cabinets. Form and function must both be considered.

Of course, there’s not just one type of bathroom vanity cabinet. That would really have been boring… Firstly, there are single bathroom vanities and double bathroom vanities. When searching for bathroom vanity cabinets be sure that you will actually have the space required. So what sizes are there? There is only one sink in a single vanity, and, you got it, two sinks in a double vanity. There are other style options as well, such as Mexican bathroom vanities, which seems to have increased in popularity recently. What are they? Bright colors and tiled floors are two things that can be said to typify a Mexican style bathroom.

It’s Never Too Late To Start The Season’s Yard Care

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Before you know it, winter will be over, snow will be melted and the lawn weeds will once again rear their ugly heads. Will you be ready? Maybe you’ll just call your local lawn service Georgia, but maybe you should consider doing it yourself.

Chances are if you are like most people, you will wait until the last possible minute to get out and start applying the proper products to make your lawn thick, green and healthy this season. If that is you, then you definitely need the following tips to ensure you don’t make any mistakes along the way.

First off, you need to consider the fertilizer you will apply. I never recommend super high nitrogen fertilizers as they do nothing but over-push the growth of the lawn. It is best to find something with a better balance of potassium and phosphorus to help the lawns root structure. It is also a good idea to apply organic fertilizers in the hot summer to avoid burning. You will find that organics also release nutrients slowly, feeding the lawn over time and not all in once quick burst.

Next comes the weed control (don’t you just love yard care?). You are going to get weeds and you need to kill them. If you don’t, they will spread to your neighbors and that is a bad situation! I never recommend homeowners use products labeled as “weed and feed” as these products offer absolutely no control over where the chemical goes. You don’t want to throw weed control in areas where there are no weeds present.

You should look to spot spray weeds using a pump sprayer. Mix concentrated weed product with water and only put it where necessary.

Finally come the finishing touches. You will need some sort of insect control and probably a fungus treatment for the later spring. I’d also recommend you get some type of product that contains an iron additive as that will turn your lawn dark blue, giving you the edge you are looking for!

So if you are reading this at the last minute, and you are about to go nuts because the weeds are invading your brown lawn, get out this weekend and get started. You’ll be surprised how fast your lawn will respond.

Wood Furnishings To Decorate Your Home

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Decorating your home can be quite fascinating. There are so many options of style you can choose for your home decoration. For a natural look, wooden furniture is often become the choice of many people. It is because wooden furniture is able to bring out fresh and calming effect in our room. Wooding furniture is also timeless choice that will not become out of date along with the time. The older the age is, the more precious the wooden furniture for the antiqueness.

You can choose furniture that made from mahogany, teak, mindy, or many other wood as you like. The most suggested choice is might be the hardwood. It is because hardwood considered as the most durable wood among the others and it also requires least care than the furniture that made from other woods.

Before you buy wooden furniture, make sure you know exactly its main material. It is crucial to find out the right maintenance efforts as well as to see the authenticity. The best way to see if wooden furniture is genuine or not is examining the weight; the more its weight, the better quality it has. Since this kind of furniture can cost quite expensive, do not forget to ask for discount anytime you want to buy wooden furniture. Few percent of discount will be useful to save you significant amount of money.

How to Determine a Fine Quality Wooden Furniture
Since wooden furniture is quite expensive and can be quite fragile when it comes to deal with the temperature, seasons and other factors, we have to make sure first that the furniture we are about to purchase is have a high quality.

The first think you should notice is the wood. You have to see if the furniture is made of either solid wood or wood veneers or layers of wood. Not all of veneers has lower quality than the solid wood, but it is according to the designs and the kind of wood that become the main material. Furniture that are made from deciduous trees such as ash, beech, birch, cherry, mahogany, maple, oak, pecan, poplar, teak and walnut are usually considered as the high quality one.

See also the construction, check out the joints and if the wood pieces joined through some kind of interlocking mechanism such as mortise and tenon, doweling, tongue and groove, and dovetailing, its means that the furniture is the high quality one since the pieces will be securely attached to one another. About the finishing, wooden furniture should be sanded even though it’s only for a smooth feel, make sure that the finish is free from cloudiness, roughness, bubbles, and other defect. See also if the furniture is labeled genuine since it means that it made of the actual wood named.

1950s Kitchen Furniture For The Home - Helpful Advice

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

The 1950s were a great time for most Americans. The economy was thriving. Jobs were plentiful and the idea of a car in the garage and a chicken in the oven was achievable. My how times have changed. One way to reclaim the joys you remember from the 50s is to redecorate your condo with 1950s retro themed furniture.

The center of every home is the kitchen. The kitchen is where the family comes together to eat most of its meals. Having this room with a retro theme is a great place to start when building your 1950s retro home.

The center of any retro kitchen is the table and chairs. When I think retro table, I think about a table with lots of chrome and a Formica top. Around your retro table, you are going to need some retro diner chairs. The best retro style chairs are made for restaurant use. I definitely recommend purchasing commercial grade tables and chairs. If it can last in a restaurant under heavy use, it should last just fine in your kitchen.

After you have taken care of the table and chairs, the next area to attack in the kitchen is the kitchen counter . This is where many of you eat breakfast or when in a hurry. There are two ways you can go with this. The first is just buying standard retro style bar stools. The second way, and the way I recommend is by permanently installing mounted bar stools into you floor right in front of your counter.

There are many benefits to permanently mounting your bar stools to your floor. The first and best is that it looks great. Your breakfast counter will look like the counter of a 24 hour restaurant . The other added benefit is that they last forever and become a permanent part of your home. Another advantage of using retro style upholstered furniture is that it is really easy to keep clean and keep in good condition.

The trick to purchasing commercial furniture rather than residential furniture is to search websites geared towards restaurants, cafes, and diners. There are many website for food service equipment dealers. You should be able to by your furniture from the same large food service equipment dealers. You probably won’t get the same price as if you were a large hotel but you should still get a better price than if you purchased it from a dinette set.

Types Of Tile For Your Bathroom Floor Or Kitchen Walls

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

Tiles are a great way to give your bathroom or kitchen a great new look. New bathroom wall tiles or kitchen wall tiles can be used to give even the most boring rooms in your home a brand new look. There are a wide range of different tile fabrics available, each of which can be used to achieve different effects around the home. The trick is to work out the benefits of the different tile fabrics as well as the expense, so then you can find the perfect bathroom tiles for your property.

Tiles made from natural stone are great tiles to use on a floor. The reason for this is because they are sturdy and can take a lot of abuse as well as being easy to take care of. Limestone or marble tiles are brilliant for floors and they come with either a polished or honed look to them, depending on whether or not you want a shiny or matt look to the floor. Fitting natural stone tiles is often a difficult process so you may want to get some help from the professionals. When it comes to cutting stone tiles such as marble tiles, you should always use an angle grinder with a diamond cutting wheel.

Ceramic tiles typically come either glazed or unglazed. Ceramic floor tiles are normally the simplest sort of tile to cut and drill because they are not as hard as natural stone and porcelain tiles. Ceramic tiles can work well on floors and walls but they are usually most suited as kitchen wall tiles.

Glass tiles have become increasingly popular recently but glass are perhaps the most difficult tiles to use. In most cases you should follow the manufacturers guidelines of how to cut and lay these tiles. Most glass tiles can be cut using either an angle grinder, some flatbed tile cutters or some nibblers. However all of these require a special glass blade and when the floor tiles have been cut they need to be smoothed off with a carborundum stone.

Stainless steel tiles may not sound very exciting but it is possible to achieve some amazing effects with them. Stainless steel is very strong and will not rust or crack or fade with time and they are also pretty easy to fix using sticky backing pads. They are typically used as splash back kitchen wall tiles, which surround hobs and cooking apperatus. Stainless steel tiles are mostly used in the food and petrochemical industries or places where a high standard of hygiene is required.

Decorate Your Home With Pictures From Great Modern Artists

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

I have been wandering about regional galleries the past month across North Wiltshire, West Wiltshire, Kennet and South Wiltshire and discovered that the many art establishments be they in Chippenham Wiltshire or Malmesbury Wiltshire are packed with some fantastic regional artists works and a number of brilliant national artists prints. I thought I would give an insite of some brilliant artists who’s work is around at this time that are producing works that are of benefit having a look at. Art is for everyone and a decent print put in the correct space of a room can create a different kind of environment.

The 1st artist I needed to look at is the Scottish artist Jack Vettriano who I feel is painting exceptional works of art if you like film noir. For me when I look at his work I feel like I’m looking at a scene from an American detective series or a scene from Miss Marple. Sounds a little flippant perhaps but place with that a strong feel of sensuality and strength and you will begin to get a sense of his work. Jack Vettriano’s work can be found in print all around the planet and adds strong tones to a room when you want to add depth and feeling.

The 2nd artist I needed to discuss away from moody tones to humorous large characters. I feel Beryl Cook was one of Britain’s greatest creaters of British character scenes. Many of us see her characters as big ladies by the seaside, but the diversity of her work brings so much humour to normal events of normal people having a moment. Have a look as I’m sure she will make you smile, her work is light and lifts the mood of a room.

The Third Artist I wanted to look at is Philip Gray the Irish artist who paints gorgeous moody scenes that I feel are so stunning and awe inspiring that you have a real sense how it must have been to be looking onto them yourself. His painting is very inspiring using colours that only nature’s beautiful sunsets and dawns can provide. There is always a feeling of dramatic quiet about his work and is really of benefit a look if you like dramatic landscapes. Most homes will benefit from pieces of this artists work.

The Fourth Artist I needed to talk about was Duncan Macgregor who produces scenes that reveal his passion for the ocean. Many of his paintings have boats sailing through their expanse which for those that love the ocean like myself adds points of attention in gorgeous reflective scenes of the ocean. His work is often fairly striking using contrasting colours to reflect the contrasts of the ocean.

These are good artists to look at to give you a wide range of styles that show the huge effect art can have on yourself or other people as they enter a room. Art I feel should be a thing that helps you to dream about something else outside of your day to day. It can make all the difference to a room with bare walls, adding just the touch you want to reflect an aspect of self.

How To Make The Most Out Of Being Creative With Stencils

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

Interesting and exciting patterns can be created with the use of one or more wall stencils, just follow these basic steps:

Use a quality template

Stencil design you are using must be quality and from a reputable seller.

Read their feedback from previous clients. Having the stencil soak through with paint in the middle of the masterpiece would be highly annoying. Likewise, not knowing the order in which to paint multi-layer stencils could lead to a disaster. So instructions, and a picture of the finished work, are essential on all but the easiest stencils.

Use the proper tools

Apply stencil paint using either a brush, sponge or a roller. Select a soft but stiff, round brush for stencilling and apply the paint carefully to avoid a build up of excess paint at the edge of the stencil, else you will find the paint creeping under and ruining the effect.

If the stencil requires the use of multiple colours, consider the use of an applicator per colour rather than trying to wash it in between each colour. Washing the brush or sponge will only lead to water being carried onto the paint, which could result in a run.

Use the correct technique

If you want to avoid paint being dragged under the stencil, always start your stroke at the edge of the stencil and work towards the centre. Thus paint is being pulled away from the actual stencil, rather than dragged towards it. The paint should be applied in thin layers, allowing each to dry between applications, if required. Again, overuse of paint is risking allowing the paint to run under the stencil and spoil the effect.

Don’t move the stencil

Tape the stencil in place firmly, but using a suitable easy to remove adhesive tape that won’t damage the areas already completed. And if you are taping an area that has already been painted, make sure it is well dry and firm!

Clean the stencil before moving on

When you are using the stencil once on a job isn’t sufficient, then ensure that it is properly cleaned before repositioning it ready for the next use. Any unused paint might just run off onto the next part of the pattern and look unsightly, spoiling the beautiful stencil effect.

And do not forget that you can always find a great assortment of stencils to choose from. From aquatic, to Childrens’ to out of this world space themes. Let your imagination run wild and enjoy your stencilling effects!

What Is A Mink Blanket?

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

Since I saw my first mink blanket over 20 years ago, they have changed quite a lot.The original designs I saw were very simple floral designs and a few simple animal designs. The floral and animal designs of yesterday pale in comparison to the patterns of today.A Mink Blanket is not in fact a blanket which is made out of animal mink per say. It gets that term from its softness and texture and is in fact usually made out of polyester or a blend of acrylic and polyester. Now not every mink blanket is of the same quality and many people ask me how can they tell which is of higher quality. The difference in a high quality mink blanket as opposed to a poor quality mink blanket is in its weave and the detail of the design.Unfortunately the quality of the weave can only be assessed by feeling the blanket and not by a picture alone. Although some factories in China and Korea make high quality mink blanket, many do not and this should be kept in mind. Also many designs lack detail and clarity and this can be told by looking at the blanket. Once again some factories employ superior technology when designing a mink blanket while others try to use cheaper technology and you end up getting cheaper looking designs, which can be pretty easy to tell by just comparing the 2 side by side.

While its true that in the beginning China was known for producing sub standard products, over time with the investment in new technologies, many factories in China are now producing higher quality mink blanket then Korea. It is in fact an “old wives tale” that just because the mink blanket was produced in China it must be of poorer quality then the mink blanket produced in Korea. So don`t be fooled by this misinformation.

With such a wide selection of mink blanket now available, you can match them with any theme you may have in your home. Whether you are an amateur or a professional interior designer, you can impress almost anyone by including a mink blanket in your designs. And it just isn`t about how beautiful the designs and patterns of the mink blanket are, it`s also about how warm they can keep you and how more comfortable your sleep can be. If you are going to be having guests over they not only will complement you on your tastes, but also for the wonderful sleep they got because of your mink blanket. Insider Home Renovation Tips

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

If you’re taking on a major home improvement project, such as reflooring a room, building out an entire room, replacing kitchen cabinets, and many others, there are a few tips you should know that can make the whole process go a lot more smoothly.

From hiring the right laborers to planning smart, this article will cover the five crucial tips you need for a successful home improvement project.

1. Always check your contractor’s and laborer’s references.

Whether it’s calling former clients, viewing their portfolios or reading online reviews, it is absolutely critical that you do a thorough background check of your contractors and any laborers you hire to help with your home improvement project.

You want to make sure that anyone you hire is licensed, insured, has a clean record and a solid reputation. Hiring the right person will save you both time and money.

2. Never settle for less than 3 quotes.

If you’re pricing a paint job or a thousand square feet of tile, always request at least a quote from three different businesses to get a clear range of your estimates. By having three quotes, you’re better equipped as a customer to really know the cost of an item or job and locate the best available deals.

If you like one provider or retailer better than another, don’t be afraid to ask them to come down on their quote to meet their competitor’s bid. Most good business people are more than happy to lower their price to attract a new customer.

3. Pad your budget.

When laying out your budget proposal, always pad it by at least 15-20 percent. You want some wiggle room for unexpected surprises, hidden costs and timeline problems. The planner who doesn’t leave himself financial room to maneuver will likely face financial risks before the completion of the project.

4. Check your permits twice.

Before you do any major home renovation, make sure all your permits are in order. The last thing you want is an entire house overhaul being stopped by the building inspector once your house has been demolished.

If you don’t have sufficient knowledge, consult a lawyer or a licensed builder to make sure you clearly understand what’s required in your city, county and state.

5. Have your materials on hand.

Having all your materials at the job site and ready to go before you start a project is your best insurance against delays. Most major home improvement renovations are delayed by unshipped products and supplies.

Remember, there’s a lot that goes into any home improvement project, but with these five tips you’re on your way to bringing in your project on time and on budget!

Antique Bath Vanities Are A Low Cost Alternative To Remodeling Your Bathroom

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

If you are interested in enhancing the aesthetic appeal of or otherwise reinvigorating your bathroom, consider installing a charming small bath vanity. These useful and visually appealing features instantly add character and class to any room, and they even increase the market value of your home substantially. And the best part is you’re all but guaranteed to find the perfect small bath vanity for your home. Just peruse the vast variety of online retailers and their unique catalogs and find a great vanity. The following is a brief outline of some of the more common small bath vanity types and styles.

There may be no better way to give your home a quaint, rustic appeal than to install double vanities. This does not mean that these double vanities sacrifice any space or utility; they are specifically engineered to give your bathroom that desirable traditional aesthetic while simultaneously improving bathroom efficiency with modern ingenuity. They are most often constructed from hardwoods, such as oak, cherry, mahogany, maple, and teak. Wood double sink vanities are sealed and finished with a protective layer that keeps them water resistant. Nevertheless, it is certainly in your best interests to properly care for your wood bath vanity as they are a bit more susceptible to water and mildew damage than other small bath vanity types. Make sure that you wipe away any water that may have collected on your vanity counter top. Additionally, when the time comes to clean your vanity, make sure that you use only those cleaning solutions that do not harm wood and wood finish. With proper care, your antique bath vanity can stay beautiful for a long time.

Of course, space is always an issue in any home remodeling, and the space in your bathroom is of particular importance. For smaller bathrooms, such as those often found in apartments or small houses, consider investing in corner bathroom vanities. These vanities boast all of the utility and elegance of full sized antique bath vanities, but they can fit into any corner, making them remarkably space efficient.

Perhaps an antique style vanity is not exactly your cup of tea; but no need to worry, there is in fact a wide variety of modern antique bath vanities available online for the hip, contemporary home designer and re-modeler. These polished, sleek vanities are perfect for that contemporary, perhaps industrial look you need for your classy, modern home. They are most often available with metal counter tops, such as stainless steel or even copper. But, for a more natural feel, many modern vanities come with cool stone counter tops; dark stone materials like granite or onyx give your room a more robust, masculine aesthetic, while softer stones like marble are polished, charming, and elegant in appearance. Some of these antique double vanities use tempered glass sinks to further improve the functional charm of your bathroom.

On the other hand, if you share a bathroom with at least one other person, you might consider investing in a double small vanity. These antique bath vanities have double sinks, twice the cabinet storage space, and usually two mirrors as well. Double bathroom vanities allow both you and your partner to use the bathroom simultaneously, without having to worry about sharing sink time or getting hygienic tasks done efficiently and fairly. Imagine an end to the “whose turn is it” question, as both you and your house mates can accomplish daily hygienic tasks simultaneously.
